20th Annual General Membership Meeting 2017

Please join your fellow colleagues at this year's BAOC Annual Meeting to be held at the South San Francisco Conference Center on Sunday March 19th, 2017.  

The program will include a hot breakfast, 4 hours of continuing education, installation of BAOC officers, and raffle prizes. 

Our guest lectures this year are Dr. Mark Sawamura speaking on "Things That Make You Go Hmmm" and Dr. Judy Tong on "Systemic Disease and its Ocular Relevance."

About Dr. Sawamura:
Dr. Mark Sawamura is currently an Associate Professor at the Southern California College of Optometry of Marshall B. Ketchum University.  He is a 1991 graduate of the Southern California College of Optometry and returned to teach at his alma mater following a post-graduate residency at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry/ Hahnemann University.  He has been a full time faculty member since 1994.  Dr. Sawamura serves as the Chief of the Jarnagin Center for Primary Eye Care and Ocular Disease within the University Eye Center at Ketchum Health, our new University multidisciplinary teaching clinic.  He teaches the neuro-ophthalmic disease track at the College as well as advanced ophthalmic procedures, application of lasers in ophthalmic practice and ocular disease courses.  His clinical interests lie in neuro-ophthalmic disorders, glaucoma, anterior chamber biometry, and imaging of the eye.  He has been involved in therapeutics courses for optometrists in multiple states and has provided the education for glaucoma certification in California.  Dr. Sawamura currently is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the California Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.  He has served as the Oral Examination Chair for the Diplomate in Neuro-ophthalmic Disease, PAM committee member for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, Past Chairman of the ASCO SIG on Optometric Informatics, Past President and current board member of the Asian American Optometric Society and has authored TPA guides for California Optometrists.  He has authored medical abstracts for the Optometry Journal.  He is also a past recipient of the SCCO Faculty Excellence Award as well as multiple Teacher of the Year awards.
 
About Dr. Tong:
Dr. Judy Tong is an Associate Professor of Optometry and Assistant Dean of Residency Programs at the Southern California College of Optometry of the Marshall B. Ketchum University.  She received her B.S. degree in Genetics from the University of California, Berkeley and her O.D. degree from the Southern California College of Optometry.  She completed a one year residency in Primary Care Optometry at the Eye Institute of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (Salus University).  Dr. Tong serves as a clinical faculty in the Primary Care and Ocular Disease Departments at the University Eye Center at Ketchum Health in Anaheim, CA.  Her main focus at the University is teaching anterior segment diseases, basic and advanced procedures including lasers, injection, and suturing.  Dr. Tong is one of the core instructors of the glaucoma certification courses and grand rounds program in California.  Dr. Tong’s research activities include being the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on two phase III antibiotic drug trials and recently completed a major allergy study.  Dr. Tong is an extremely compassionate eye doctor and ministers to her patients through her clinical care.
