Optical Faculty Pool – HS Clinical Instructor or HS Assistant Clinical Professor – School of Optometry
The University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry invites applications for a pool of qualified full time instructor/s in the school’s eyewear dispensary should an opening arise. The instructor/s will be working directly with patients as well as teaching Doctor of Optometry candidates/students in opticianry skills. Screening of applicants begins immediately and will continue as needed. The number of positions will vary from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the School of Optometry. Positions will be 100% time and salary is commensurate with experience. The applicant we seek will be highly proficient and experienced in all aspects of dispensary operations and capable of providing effective guidance and instruction to our students in the context of a high volume optical department. The successful candidate will supervise students in our clinic, prepare and deliver seminars on a variety of relevant topics in concert with other instructors, and have primary responsibility for teaching and evaluating those students. Basic Qualifications (at the time of application): American Board of Opticianry Certified (ABOC) optician (or equivalent international degree) . Additional Qualifications (by start date): Five years of optical experience in a dispensing and/or laboratory environment. Experience working with ophthalmic frames, lens materials, and technologies. Employment is contingent on successful completion of a Background Check. To be eligible to work, clinic employees must comply with all UC Berkeley Optometry Clinic annual immunization and medical screening requirements, trainings, and University and School policies. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in training optical professionals strongly preferred. American Board of Opticians Advances (ABOA), American Board of Optician Masters (ABOM), undergraduate degree, or laboratory experience.
