Vision To Learn is the largest school-based vision care nonprofit in the country. VTL exists to address one basic premise – if you can’t see, you can’t learn. Vision To Learn provides eye exams and glasses to students in underserved communities with no cost to the students and their families to help them succeed in school and in life. Founded in Los Angeles in 2012, Vision To Learn has since expanded to schools across the country. Vision care is critical as 80% of all learning during a child’s first 12 years is visual, we work to solve the problem of lack of access by partnering with school districts to provide eye exams and glasses at no charge to families. We have provided over 2 million vision screenings, 578,000 eye exams and 465,000 new, prescription glasses in the last decade.

Position Description
Vision To Learn is seeking a qualified candidate for an Optometrist licensed to practice in Sacramento County, CA. This position would be up to 3 days a week. Note: this is an independent contractor position.

Key Position Responsibilities
•Provide vision evaluations: check VA’s, assess binocular vision, IOP, pupils, perform a full refraction and prescribe appropriate correction, and assess ocular health
• Prescribe vision devices, tests patient on all applicable equipment to determine the most suitable for his/her condition, and instruct patient in the proper use of it
• Confirm that patient diagnosis is properly documented in the internal systems

Qualifications
• As the position will work on a mobile clinic, must be flexible to commute throughout a portion of the greater Sacramento County geography
• Successful track record of working with children
• Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
• Must pass Department of Justice background check (LiveScan) and drug test
• Experienced using EMR systems. Microsoft Office experience is preferred
• Spanish or other language skills a plus

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified health science clinical faculty members at the Clinical Instructor, Assistant, Associate, or Full Clinical Professor level to teach in the School of Optometry and Vision Science and/or Berkeley Optometry partner off-campus clinics, should an opening arise. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the department. The pool will remain in place for one calendar year; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must reapply.

The responsibilities of the health science clinical faculty members include teaching optometric student clinicians in the patient care environment, performing direct patient care when student clinicians are unavailable both on or off the UC Berkeley campus, and/or teaching optometric student clinicians the basics of eye examinations sequence in the pre-clinical environment. They may also perform service to the school and community through education or various outreach programs on or off the UC Berkeley campus.

Appointees will be eligible for advancement through the ranks of the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series, based on performance in teaching, professional activity, scholarly and creative activity, and service.

The Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry and Vision Science has excellent clinical facilities and a large, diverse patient population. Over 70,000 patient visits are seen annually within our on campus clinic. About 65 optometry students are graduated annually. We seek candidates whose experience, teaching, or community service has prepared them to contribute to diversity and excellence. Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
At the time of application candidates must have an OD, MD, DDS, DO, NP, or equivalent clinical degree from an accredited institution (or equivalent international degree).

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
Candidates must be licensed in the State of California by their respective governing board by the start date and maintain active licensure throughout their term of employment. To be eligible to work, clinic employees must comply with all UC Berkeley Optometry Clinic annual immunization and medical screening requirements, trainings, and University and School policies.

Preferred qualifications
Residency training and Clinical teaching experience are preferred but not required.

Job description
We are looking for an Optometrist to perform eye tests and provide excellent eye care to our patients.

Optometrist responsibilities include analyzing vision tests, identifying sight problems, and prescribing corrective lenses and eyeglasses. To be successful in this role, you should have attention to detail and be able to treat all kinds of patients with kindness and discretion, from young children to the elderly. Note that to be considered for this position, you need to be a licensed Optometrist.

Ultimately, you will ensure the accurate diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and injuries.

Responsibilities
·  Perform comprehensive eye and vision tests and contact lens fittings.
·  Diagnose defects of the eye, such as myopia, astigmatism, and glaucoma.
·  Provide personalized temporary and permanent solutions to sight issues based on each patient’s specific case and medical history.
·  Prescribe medications, eyeglasses and contact lenses.
·  Advise patients on proper eye care techniques.
·  Keep updated and accurate medical records for all patients.
·  Bill for services rendered.
·  Book next appointments in cases where re-examination is required.
·  Train patients on how to use and maintain their contact lenses.
·  Refer to ophthalmologists when patients need to undergo surgery or when medically indicated.
·  Train ophthalmic assistants.

Requirements and skills
·  Work experience as an Optometrist.
·  In-depth understanding of eye conditions and vision defects.
·  Hands-on experience with eye examination tools, such as ophthalmoscope and tonometer.
·  The ability to explain medical terms simply and calmly.
·  Attention to detail.
·  Helpful and a great team player.
·  Interpret results of technical test (visual fields. OCT, etc).
·  Review labs and consult reports to coordinate care as needed.
·  Work up patients for an ophthalmologist.
·  Degree in Optometry.
