Premier Eyecare is offering an immediate opening for a part-time or full-time (3, 4, or 5 days per week, depending on the applicant's preference and other commitments) disease-oriented optometrist to serve our integrated ophthalmology-optometry practice. We provide state-of-the-art, comprehensive optometric, medical, and surgical care for a wide variety of conditions. We care for a very diverse population in San Francisco's Mission District, from low-income immigrants to tech CEO's and other professionals. We are the only practice in our service area providing truly comprehensive services including cataract and glaucoma surgery and medical retina, and our equipment rivals that of some academic ophthalmology departments.
Our philosophy is for our doctors to practice to the full extent of their licensure and training, with plenty of backup available for specialized clinical problems. Although we see adults with almost all types of ocular conditions, the practice emphasizes glaucoma, cataract surgery, and non-surgical retinal disease (including intravitreal injections and laser treatments for diabetic macular edema, macular degeneration, and retinal vein occlusions). The optometrists at Premier Eyecare manage many of our glaucoma and dry eye patients, cataract postop patients, red eyes and infections, and retinal patients who do not require injections or surgery. The optometrists also help with IOL selection and planning for our cataract patients, including toric, extended depth-of-focus, and multifocal implants. The practice is open Monday through Friday, so the job involves no nights or weekends. The ophthalmologist is in the office almost every day, and is available 24/7 by phone or text, so backup is always available for consultation or surgical intervention. For the more subspecialized problems, such as orbital disease or surgical retina, we have an extensive network of subspecialists with whom we share patients. One of the best aspects of our practice and our patient population is that most of our patients are very appreciative of the care and attention that we provide. Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate in our teaching program, as we receive medical students from UCSF who are seeking a clinical experience at Premier Eyecare to prepare them for residency. We have excellent technicians who do all pre-testing including auto-refraction, IOP, visual fields, OCT, and photography, and are available for additional testing as directed by the doctors. Because we do not dispense eyeglasses, we see very few patients with normal eyes. We do perform some refractions but we do not dispense contact lenses, except bandage lenses and Pro-Kera for disease. Equipment in the office includes:
Our goal is to provide virtually all needed testing on-site. Many of our patients are Spanish-speaking, so the ability to perform an eye exam and give basic instructions in Spanish is essential. Translation assistance is available from our bilingual staff when needed for more complex conversations. Our clinic is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm with a lunch break. We are closed evenings and weekends. Our salary is competitive and commensurate with your experience, and we offer full benefits to all employees working 20+ hours per week. This includes health insurance (premiums paid 100% for employees and 75% for spouse and dependents), health savings account, paid vacation, holidays and sick leave, and a flexible spending (cafeteria) plan for commuting, health, and dependent care expenses. We also provide $1000 per year dental coverage at 80% of paid charges, and we cover licensing, DEA, and malpractice insurance fees for all of our doctors. Depending on the applicant's preferences and other commitments, we are open to a 3, 4, or 5 day per week (6 to 10 half-days per week) work schedule.
